It happens every year: The little ones, and some of the big ones, dress up like ghosts, pirates, and superheroes. They walk around the RV park, stopping at each RV, saying, “Trick or treat.”
Whether you’re hosting a menagerie of monsters this year or you need  to take your own little creatures out trick or treating, Halloween is a great holiday for RV life.
Being the best ghost hostDon’t run away on Halloween night. You’ll be missing a lot of fun and egg can be hard to get off of the RV. Instead, plan ahead and be ready for the fun.
Here are the steps you can take to make this Halloween one you and your visitors will remember:

  1. Stop by the front office and check on Trick or Treat. Some parks don’t have many children, so trick or treat is minimal or no at all. In other parks, it’s a big event. If you’ve never been there before, it’s good to ask. You can also look around. If there are lots of decorations, there’s a good chance that there’ll be lots of candy as well.
  2. Decorate your way - You can go to the store and buy lots of premade decorations, but there are also things you can do on your own.
    1. Buy large black plastic bags. Slice them into ribbons  lengthwise leaving one end intact. Hang these from the awning so that children need to walk through them to get to the candy.
    2. Play spooky music at your RV. There are free radio stations online that play scary music. Just play it through your stereo, computer, or smartphone.
    3. Put something creepy under the RV. Look for a skeleton or a scary monsters. Lay it under the RV where it’s hard to see. Tie a string onto the front and back. When kids are coming toward you, you can pull it out quickly and give them a fright. Pull the other string to pull it back in.
    4. Get dressed up. Play along by sitting at your RV with scary costume on or just something funny. The kids love when adults play along and you’ll have fun too.
  3. Look for candy from your home region - Most regions have a special candy or treat. Buy some and give those out on Halloween. Introduce kids to a snack that you love from your area.
  4. Halloween is a great time of year, whether you’re at home or out seeing the country. Make sure that you turn your RV into a great haunted spot wherever you find this fun holiday.
PS - There is no reason you can’t make a Halloween an event for adults if there aren’t any children around. Dressing up, dancing, laughing, and having fun is good for the grownups too.

Of course, if you’re really ambitious, you can get even crazier. Host a horror movie near your RV with a projector or host a Monster’s Ball, playing music and inviting everyone to come back and dance after trick or treat.
Taking the Monsters OutIf you’re RVing with the kids, you can take them out in the park itself, or you can check to see when and where the best trick or treating is in the town you’re in. If the front office doesn’t know, check the local newspaper. There are often listings for where the best areas are in town.
